Pockets

When a relationship ends, the parts of our lives we shared but no longer need should end as well. We should be able to cut them out of ourselves, abandon them like a lizard’s tail drying in the sun. Or a thrift store filled with empty picture frames and rusting cutlery.

Instead, intimate details and personal memories of no worth and value fill our pockets, spilling out whenever we are looking for something else.

Sami Shah writes things.
